After the closure of the Espinós cinema and given the current situation, Angelita's family -owner of the Central Cinema and the port's cinema terrace- are not giving up and are committed to opening a new cinema.
It was in 1973 when Antonio Català Bover married Immaculada, one of Angelita's daughters, and turned the port terrace into a movie theater with a rooftop terrace and became known as Cine Jayan, an acronym of the founders' names: Ja-ime and An-gelita.
Cine Jayan remains a family business that opens every day with enthusiasm and passion to make moviegoers feel the seventh art, showing films in their original version.

Undoubtedly, this cinema, with a 420-seat auditorium, began a new lease on life and has withstood the rise of mega-cinemas to this day. The proliferation of multiple cinemas showing different films simultaneously couldn't defeat the Jayan, which chose to persevere, maintain its small-town cinema essence, and invest in a renovation in 2003, reducing its capacity to the current 347 seats.
Later, in 2011, with the advent of digital technology, the Jayan cinema once again committed to remaining the only "village cinema" in the entire Marina Alta region. The Jayan Cinema continues to be a family business that opens every day with enthusiasm and passion for sharing the magic of cinema with film lovers, screening films in their original language.
Currently, the Jayan Cinema combines digital and 35mm film projections. The future is digital, but the key lies elsewhere. Independent films in the 'El Seté Segell' series and films in their original language are what make this cinema profitable, not the latest releases. The Jayan screens one English-language film during the week because more than half of Xàbia's residents are foreigners, and they are the ones who frequent this cinema.
